Rayner Spencer Mills is an independent research company formed in 2004. Based on their own fund selection process they have launched a fund ratings service. Only 10% of IMA funds have won ratings.

Lipper Leader Rating System
The Lipper Leader Rating System is a toolkit that uses investor-centered criteria to deliver a simple, clear description of a fund's success in meeting certain goals, such as preserving capital, lowering expenses or building wealth. Lipper Ratings provide an instant measure of a fund’s success against a specific set of key metrics.

Citywire Fund Manager Ratings
Citywire’s Fund Manager Ratings identify the individual managers who have the best risk adjusted personal performance track records over 3 years and highlights the funds they are currently managing. Of the 950+ active fund managers in Citywire’s UK database, less than 5% receive an ‘AAA’ rating and less than 20% receive any rating at all.

Morningstar Qualitative Ratings TM
Morningstar assess five key areas for each fund: People, Parent, Process, Price and Performance. Using its own in-house data, public documents and comprehensive interviews with fund managers and key fund company executives, Morningstar analysts evaluate each of these areas in depth. Their assessments of each area are thoroughly debated and discussed by senior researchers and then aggregated into the final rating.
